William James “Will” Durant (5 Nov. 1885 – 7 Nov. 1981) was one of America’s most prolific writers. He was also renowned as a philosopher and historian. His most notable work, The Story of Civilization, was a joint effort with his wife, Ariel, and spanned eleven volumes. He and his wife had been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction.
