Is It Possible for Me to Suffer from Premature Balding?
It’s understandable to feel worried about premature balding. Hair is precious to most – if not all – of us and the prospect of leaving home without or with balding hair is almost akin to being naked in public. Hopefully, learning about the possibilities of premature balding – and what you can do about it – can help you envision a more positive hair-challenged future.
Premature Balding for Men and Women
For women, premature balding has been linked to polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS. As for men, the chances of experiencing such a state, which is referred to as male pattern baldness, depend on both biochemical and genetic factors.
Hair Loss is Natural
Just because you’re losing hair right now doesn’t automatically mean you’re already suffering from premature baldness. But in time, as you age, you could be experiencing reduced hair growth. That’s because the follicles of your hair age as well and as the years go by, it becomes more difficult for your follicles to grow new hair.
There is a seventy percent chance that you’ll suffer from premature baldness and signs of it can start to show as early as when you hit twenty-five years of age. At any point in time afterwards, you may notice that you’re gradually losing hair in the crown portion of your head. You may also notice that your hairline is starting to recede.
Testosterone Production
Contrary to popular opinion, even women have dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a hormone produced by testosterone. In any case, increased presence of DHT in men and women can lead to premature baldness.
There are things you can do, however, to limit the presence of DHT in your body.
Reduce stress.
So many factors can cause stress and you need to address each and every one of them if you don’t want to lose your hair earlier than you should. Evaluate the various aspects of your life. Is there anything about your studies or work that significantly troubles you? How about your social or personal life?
Reduce caffeine intake.
Too much consumption of coffee not only makes you more likely to experience insomnia but it has also been linked to premature baldness. If you don’t want to lose any great amount of hair then stay away from products with caffeine.
In several studies, premature baldness has been linked to hormonal imbalance, which is often something you can’t do anything about. There is also a more than possible correlation between masturbation and premature baldness.
If and when you do suffer from premature balding, it’s important not to consider this as a life-altering condition. You are who you are and will always be, with or without hair.
