First grade lesson plans break down lessons explaining how the class will be taught, what materials will be used, what the objective is and what school standards will be met. Lesson plans provide preparation for activities and focus on strategies needed to address individual student needs. First grade lessons are crucial in a child’s educational experience.

The main focus in first grade lesson plans will be on reading and math, but other areas of the curriculum are introduced at this level. At the beginning of the year first graders should be able to show mastery of several objectives. For example, a first grader should be able to write first and last name, write and recognize letters in the alphabet, know vowel sounds and consonant sound pattern in reading words. What Are Guided Reading Lesson Plans?

Guided reading lesson plans are based on the book or story students are reading in each small group. As different groups in a classroom are at different reading levels, there will be more than one book and more than one lesson plan. The lesson plan should be designed to get student’s interest by introducing the book and some of the background story.

Guided reading lesson plans should include strategies effective for a variety of skills. Some important elements found in a plan are vocabulary words that might appear in other parts of the curriculum, phonics, mechanics and questions to consider before, during and after reading. Lesson plans include questions for the teacher to discuss at the end of each guided reading group.
