How to Become a Registered Nurse – Education
If you want to get in an excellent undergraduate school and receive competent nursing education right from the start, it would very much help if you have at least above average ACT or SAT scores as well as high marks in science subjects.
From there, you have several alternatives to choose from.
Associate Degree in Nursing Program
This is the shortest way on how to become a registered nurse. It is a two-year course offered by junior and community colleges. More focus on hands-on training is provided than in classroom education.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Program
You can take a BSN in colleges and universities but be aware that you’ll need four years to complete the course. Focus is more on classroom education than training.
Master’s Degree in Nursing
For a master’s nursing degree, you will need to complete one year under the bachelor program before moving on to 2 years of graduate study.
Nursing Diploma
Unlike the first three, nursing diploma programs are offered more often than not by hospitals instead of educational institutions. They take about three years to complete and in past decades, majority of registered nurses had received training from such programs before they were able to practice in their chosen profession.
All these have their own pros and cons but in any case, there is no reason why you couldn’t complete any combination of these courses. More knowledge and training never hurts.
When you do complete any of the stated courses, the next thing you’ll have to do is to pass the NCLEX exam. To take the exam independently (most of the time, taking the exam is arranged by your school), just inquire with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Get more training.
Apply for advanced courses. You will be more productive (not to mention receive even better job prospects and compensation) in your chosen work when you develop specialized skills.

Bedside care is almost as critical as medication and treatment. Develop the knack for putting your patients at ease.

It won’t be as hard if you learn to appreciate the life-saving results that are brought about by your efforts.
