James Byron Dean, born in Marlon, Indiana (February 8, 1931) and passed away in Cholame, California (September 30, 1955)
His first appearance on TV was in a commercial for Pepsi Cola.
His three most notable works are Giant (playing as Jett Rink), East of Eden (playing as Cal Trask), and Rebel without a Cause (Jim Stark). He received the first posthumous Oscar nomination for his work in East of Eden.
In 199, the American Film Institute ranked the actor as the eighteenth (18th) best male movie star on their list of top 100 stars for the last century.
Various biographers of Dean, which included his college roommate, best friend and alleged partner William Bast, asserted that the actor had been homosexual or at least in possession of an experimental view on sexual relationships.
The intersection of Highways 46 and 41, which was the site of Dean’s fatal accident, had been renamed as the James Dean Memorial Highway to commemorate the actor’s 50th death anniversary in 2005.
